Pure Land Buddhism is a devotional school in the Mahayana tradition. It became particularly popular in Japan in the 11th century CE.

It is particularly associated with the Buddha Amitabha, whose devotees believe that their piety will be rewarded by securing entry to his "Pure Land" (Sukhavati, or paradise), where bodhisattvas will show them the way to nirvana.
